Simulated LTE Network Elements:

Ixia supports all major LTE network elements. LTE testing provides all required protocols, simulators, and network interfaces to support functional and stress test when verifying:

  • eNodeB - by simulating thousands of UEs with LTE UE Simulation system, other eNodeB, MME, SAE GW
  • Access and Core Network elements - by simulating PDN Gateway, PCRF, SAE GW, MME and eNodeBs
  • Interworking of LTE MME with UTRAN and GERAN networks - by simulating the HSS, and SGSN
  • Interworking of non-3GPP networks (e.g. WiMAX) by simulating the 3GPP AAA Proxies/Servers, Mobile Access Gateway, Foreign Agents (FA), IP Access System routers

Simulated LTE Interfaces:

  • S1, S2a/b/c, S3, S4, S5, S6a, S7, S8 a/b, S10, S11, S12, X2, and LTE-Uu

LTE Physical Interface Cards:

  • 10Base-T or 100Base-TX Ethernet
  • 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, 1000Base-T, 1000Base-SX Gigabit Ethernet

LTE Test Tools:

  • Traffic Generator for high load voice and video traffic
  • Codec support for AMR NB, G.711, G.729, G.723, RFC 3267
  • Real user plane stream generation from wav or mpeg files
  • PESQ for voice quality, PEVQ for QoE (Quality of Experience) video measurement
  • DTMF (generation and detection)
  • IP Pass-through "any-IP" type bearer stream testing
  • X•Stream packet generator for high capacity packet traffic

Supported Automated LTE Test Scripts:

Ixia provides ready to run test scripts (QuickStarts) that are easily adapted to the specific test environment increasing productivity in early stages of testing. LTE Test Applications are prepackaged ready-to-run test scenarios for high capacity LTE UE load and simulating LTE Core Network elements including MMEs and SGWs to fully surround the eNodeB.

LTE Applications complement the IxCatapult LTE hardware, software, protocols and tools with ready to run LTE test scenarios, eliminating the need for scripting resources. Ixia has developed these pre-packaged applications to assist users in configuring and executing various LTE test scenarios.

  • LTE UE Load Test Application (LTA) – Verifies E-UTRAN by providing necessary configuration and control tools to simulate multiple UEs and execute high load test scenarios.
  • LTE Core Network (CN) Load Test Application (LTA) – Verifies LTE UE and E-UTRAN by providing necessary configuration and control tools to execute high load test simulating LTE Core Networking including MMEs and SGWs
  • eNodeB Wraparound Load Test Application – Totally surrounds and verifies the eNodeB by enabling the configuration and simulation of LTE UE and Core Network elements
